Nothing Is Original

"Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, trees, street signs, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non existent. And don't bother concealing your thievery- celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean Luc-Godard said: "Its not where you take things from, it's where you take them to." Jim Jarmusch

oh I am definately a thief. I had a friend once who got upset if anyone 'copied' her style.. i didn't understand that at all.. even if someone does 'steal' ideas, they are never exactly the same anyhow,, always their own style, interpretation comes out...

They do say that nothing in the world of the arts is truly original. To look on the bright side however, at least new interpretations of old themes can be interesting and refreshing!
(I like your photo of the girls with the 'toothy' grins BTW). :)

I once had a "friend" who got upset that I used the term "Vintage Christmas" to describe a vintage christmas item I was selling on ebay MANY years ago...like that was HER TERM and her term only. She then went about tormenting me on purpose with her friend who happened to be a preachers wife;;;until I confronted her on it and told her to knock it off. This person from what I can tell, has turned into a mean confused bitter old bag. But at least she is honest about being a thief:) Allison your new place is so pretty!

What a delightful quote. Didn't Shakespeare steal all his stories...but look what he turned them into.
