Motherhood the Film

The Blurb...

"MOTHERHOOD takes place in a single day that pushes to the tipping point Eliza’s fundamental fear she’s lost herself. Starting at dawn, her to-do list is daunting: prepare for and throw her daughter’s 6th birthday party, mind her toddler son, battle for a parking space during an epic alternate side parking showdown, navigate playground politics with overbearing moms, and mend a rift with after posting her best friend’s confession on her blog. On top of it all, Eliza decides to enter a contest run by an upscale parenting magazine. All she has to do is write 500 words answering the deceptively simple question, “What Does Motherhood Mean to Me?”

In the process of trying by nightfall to put these thoughts into words that don’t “sound like bad ad copy,” Eliza rediscovers her own voice and realizes what is truly valuable in her life. At once hilarious and poignant, MOTHERHOOD looks at the challenges facing mothers everywhere with a keen eye to every slight to a nearly-middle-aged woman’s selfhood – from being called “M’am” by condescending twentysomethings to endlessly stooping to pick up toys and a spouse’s dropped socks."

She's a Mother. She's a madwoman. She's a blogger. I'm kind of hoping she's me. And you. Right up there on screen. And I'm kinda hoping that one day I too might be able to put into five hundred words exactly what Motherhood means to me...

But perhaps tonight just five will have to do...
Murky, beautiful, scary, biblical and blinding.
Your turn?

Thank you so much for posting that trailer. I hadn't even heard of the movie before now and now I can't wait to see it!! Right now, motherhood is on so many different levels for me. I have an almost seventeen year old son, a thirteen year old son, a seven year old son and I'm due in May with our newest addition. In spite of all of that, I feel very peaceful. I've been blessed with great kids and, other then sudden on-set fatigue almost every afternoon, my pregnancy is going very well so far. Thanks for asking. :)

Ditto comment # 1. My grown daughter was 17 when my now 16 year old was born, and my other two are 14, and 11 , so I think my five words would start with never-ending, bliss, sticky, tugging, all.

Each and everyone of your five word descriptions is perfect and true! Though I can't even begin to imagine how complex Mummyhood becomes as children grow up and are joined by siblings, so I take my velvet cloche off to all of you who make it sound so blissful...

And Gena, I love my Pinboard too! It's totally self indulgent but there is so much loveliness to be seen and I love being able to gather my favorites in one place...

I want to see this one also. Mr. Blessing thinks it sounds "stupid" but I'm forgiving him since the whole Romantic Homes thing has turned out rosy. (Thank you for being sweet about it. I'm a little self-conscious.)

And I'm surprised you said "biblical", although I get it and I agree. =)

Looks great, hope it makes it to the UK. If you like this kind of thing, The Secret Diary of A Slummy Mummy book is very funny. Like your previous comments, take my hat off to anyone with more than one child! 5 words for motherhood: Fortitude, humour, love, surprise, satisfaction.

I hadn't heard of this movie until now, either!

My five words are joyous, humbling, inspiring, nervous, and gratifying.

What is it with this vicious anti-pathy to being called Ma'am?? In the south we are raised to call women ma'am as a sign of respect.

The movie may be one to watch for though.

I'm have joined the ranks of Mummyhood this week... yes, my little one arrived. Here are my 5 words for the first week: surreal, inspiring, daunting, blissful, cozy.

I have a 6 week old who is currently protesting bedtime so at the moment my 5 words are exhausting, emotional, frustrating, strengthening and... full-time!
